Waterways can provide the inspiration for so much that is
important in all our lives – for education and learning, for
appreciation of the natural environment, for understanding
of our heritage and who we are, for relaxation and activity,
and for regeneration and renewal of our society and economy.
At The Waterways Trust, we are working with others to help
ensure as many people as possible are able to learn from, care
for and enjoy Britain’s canals and rivers. In this Review you will
see how we have progressed in this work over the last year.
Throughout our work we are reliant on the support of others we
would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our success
this year – the volunteers and supporters who have helped in
so many ways by making a donation or participating in our work.
We are also indebted to the organisations who have provided
funding and the charitable trusts and grant-giving bodies who
have helped make our work possible.
Last but by no means least we thank our team of staff and
Trustees. Their energy and commitment is absolutely vital to all
that we do.
Looking forward, our priorities are to extend our work within
communities and to bring new audiences to our museums so
that more adults and children have the opportunity to appreciate
the value of our canals and rivers, both in the past and in the future.
There is still much to do and, together with our partners, we are
rising to the challenge.
